《关云长》由麦兆辉、庄文强联合执导，甄子丹、姜文领衔主演。麦兆辉、庄文强导演表示，每个人心中都有一个关羽形象，而此片中的“武财神”造型可能 较接近大多数人想象中关羽的样子——长刀、美髯、红脸、不怒自威、一身正气。甄子丹则认为，电影《关云长》中，他塑造的关羽是一个“人”，而不是“神”： “我希望我不仅能演出他的形，还能展现他的忠诚和信义。”
去年“五一档”中，由甄子丹领衔主演的功夫片《叶问2：宗师传奇》大战好莱坞 片《钢铁侠2》，《叶问2：宗师传奇》最终以2.4亿元的票房成为冠军。今年由甄子丹主演的《关云长》再度冲击“五一档”，片方对此信心十足。制片人梁婷 分析称，今年电影市场的银幕数将持续增长，市场容量进一步扩大，从目前其他影片的拍摄进展来看，《关云长》将是“五一档”中的最强片，会占据最多放映空 间。主演甄子丹和姜文目前人气超旺，这两人的“双雄会”绝对不逊于《让子弹飞》。此外，关云长这一历史人物的知名度也远胜叶问，群众基础无需担心。
I just watched it with love at westmall Eng Wah. 关羽 is always my favorite chinese war hero and Donnie Yen is my all time favorite martial art celebrity, seeing both character in one big screen had really brings me thrill and enjoyment throughout the whole movie.
